About Nordic Tyres
Nordic Tyres (UK) Limited was formed in September 1999 by Alan Lindsay, Douglas Clark and Karl Mjorndal. Alan Lindsay is Managing Director of the company and prior to starting the company Alan was a consultant in the Oil and Gas sector for six years after completing a full time MBA at Edinburgh University. Prior to that Alan was a Seaman Officer in the Royal Navy for fourteen years and specialised in diving and mine/ bomb disposal.
Douglas Clark runs a very successful family engineering business started by his grandfather over eighty years ago. The main sector the business operates in is forestry however more recently some new product developments have moved the company into the industrial sector. Douglas recently sold the track division, Clark Tracks to the Swedish company Gunnebo. It was through the track company that Douglas got involved in Nokian Tyres and came up with the idea of developing Nordic Tyres UK.
Karl Mjorndal is Managing Director of Nordic Pneu based in France, the successful distributor for Nokian Tyres in France for over twenty years. A recent development has seen the tyre group Starco buy into the shareholding of Nordic Pneu and the company is now Starco Nordic Pneu. Karl is a Swedish national but has lived in France for the past thirty years.
In 2008 Douglas and Alan bought-out the shareholding Nordic Pneu had in Nordic Tyres.
Nordic Tyres was formed to be the sole distributor in the UK for Nokian Heavy Tyres, the largest tyre manufacturer in the Nordic region. Based in the small town of Nokia in Finland the company can trace its roots back to 1898 when Suomen Gummitehdas Oy (Finnish Rubber Works) was founded. The company was more recently called Nokia (a more familiar brand name) and changed its name to Nokian in 1988 and was listed on the Helsinki stock exchange in 1995.
In 2003 Nordic Tyres set up a subsidiary company, Nordic Forest, to be the distributor for Windsor Chainsaw products. This part of the business has grown year on year and a copy of our catalogue can be found at the Nordic Forest section of this site.
In 2005, with permission from Nokian Tyres, the company started importing CEAT Tyres from India. CEAT use the brand Altura for tyres delivered into Europe. The Altura range of tyres has been a very successful addition to what Nordic Tyres can offer their wide and diverse customer base.
The main ethos at Nordic Tyres is quality, expertise and service in every aspect of what we offer to all our customers. Please do not hesitate to contact us for any tyre requirement that you may have and if we cannot offer a solution we have a great many contacts we can recommend that may have the answer to your problem.
We can leave you with this quotation from John Ruskin (1819-1900) which we regard relevant to our products:
"It’s unwise to pay too much, but it’s unwise to pay too little. When you pay too much you lose a little, that is all.
When you pay too little, you lose everything, because the thing you bought was incapable of doing the thing you bought it to do.
The common lay of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot, it can’t be done. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it’s well to add something for the risk you run.
And if you do that, you will have enough to pay for something better."
